.....Well this is an exciting
prospect... a little scary too! More than a little, because I have not ever traveled and explored on my own.
.....Lots of experience being the passenger though. Navigation and map skills, plus reading the street signs... that's been my forte. But I'm
alone now. (Read more about it at
"My Widow's Walk")

.....This is a whole new thing for me. Yet.... never fear! I have a friend, and he gives me confidence. He will help me if I get lost (which I will, as past experience shows), patiently talk me through my mistakes, misunderstandings, and miscalculations.
....."Who is this wonderful helper?" you ask. [continued at right - "Wonderful Helper???"]

The Squeaky Wheel

Looking back on my most recent driving adventure, I'm really happy with how it all went, even though sight-seeing was squelched by Mother Nature. I've added a hunk of miles to my tally... and have updated the score card accordingly. See below:

I've learned some things for next time!
1.Always take a sweater along.
2. Keep an umbrella in the car.
3. Speak up if things are not right...
...it usually pays off...
(It's the old 'squeaky wheel gets greased' lesson.)

[Now you are probably wondering about #3, so I'll fill you in.]

When I selected the Best Western Precottonian for my accommodations, part of the reason for my choice was that they supplied a wireless Internet connection in all their rooms. And I definitely wanted to be able to use my laptop.

When I checked in and got settled, I tried out my laptop and found that it worked just fine. Later, after dinner when I tried to use my computer,
there was no longer any network connection available to me. Oh well... that's just the way it is. [No, I don't think so.]

I called the motel manager who in turn called the Internet provider who in turn.... well you get the picture. In a matter of five minutes my connection was restored, and I had no more trouble with it.

Hooray for the squeaky wheel!
